Responsibilities Tasks Plan or modify routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) or other navigation devices to reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions Professionalism in customer service Load and unload cargo Monitor vehicle condition and perform inspection of tires, lights, brakes, refrigerated storage equipment and other equipment Adjust brakes Perform emergency repairs along the route Inspect trucks before, during and after the trip and monitor all aspects of vehicles Receive and transmit information to the central dispatcher Record information on cargo, service hours, distances traveled and fuel consumption
