Responsibilities Tasks Calculate the cost of truck repairs and new parts if necessary Plan or modify routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) or other navigation devices to reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions Resolve customer complaints and address their concerns Teaching new methods and work techniques to colleagues Professionalism in customer service Load and unload merchandise Monitor the condition of vehicles and perform inspection of tires, lights, brakes, refrigerated storage equipment and other equipment Accept and process merchandise payments Inspect trucks before, during and after trips and monitor all aspects of vehicles Perform preventive maintenance Receive and transmit information to central dispatcher Record information on cargo, service hours, distances traveled and fuel consumption Tarp and ensure cargo safety and security Credentials Credentials (certificates, licenses, affiliations, courses, etc.) Air brake authorization Preventive driving course Driver's license (Class 3 or D) First aid certificate Forklift operator certification Certificate in Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS) Certificate in Construction Safety Training Systems Experience and Specialization Type of trucking and equipment Straight truck with tilting subframe Dump truck Experience in communication systems Use global positioning system (GPS) and other navigation equipment Transportation/moving experience Short distance Additional Information Safety and Security Basic safety rating Criminal record check Driving record check Transportation and travel information Manual transmission vehicle operation Work conditions and physical capabilities Attention to detail Physically demanding Weight handled Up to 13.5 kg (30 lb) Own tools and equipment Cell phone Hard hat Safety vest Shoes or steel-toed boots Gloves Personal qualities Effective interpersonal relations Flexibility Judgment Organizational skills Reliable Team player Dedicated Patience
