Responsibilities Tasks Use woodworking machines, such as mechanical saws, jointers, mortisers and shapers, to cut, shape and form pieces and components Shape the surfaces or edges of wood pieces using hand tools, such as planes, chisels or wood files Study plans, specifications or drawings of articles to be manufactured Plane joints, assemble pieces and partial assemblies to form furniture and reinforce joints Sand wood surfaces and apply coating, stain or polish to finished articles; prepare and apply laminated plastics Apply coating, stain or polish to finished articles Maintain a clean and safe work environment
