Responsibilities Tasks Calculate the cost of truck repairs and new parts if necessary Plan or modify routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) or other navigation devices to reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions Organize trips, establish routes and make reservations Be part of a team of two truck drivers or a convoy Load and unload cargo Obtain special licenses and other documents required to transport cargo on international roads Drive trucks or articulated units to transport goods or materials Monitor the condition of vehicles and perform inspection of tires, lights, brakes, refrigerated storage equipment and other equipment Accept and process payment for goods Adjust brakes Perform emergency repairs along the road Record information on cargo, service hours, distances traveled and fuel consumption Qualifications Qualifications (certificates, licenses, affiliations, courses, etc.) Authorization to use air brakes Class 1/1F/A license (semi-trailers) Experience and Specialization Transportation/Moving experience Long distance National Provincial/territorial Regional Short distance Additional Information Safety and Security Driver's license validation Driving record check Transportation and travel information Valid driver's license Willing to travel for long periods Willing to travel for periods of more than 24 hours Working Conditions and Physical Abilities Attention to detail Handle heavy loads High work volume Physically demanding Repetitive tasks Work in a seated position Personal Qualities Judgment Organizational skills Teamwork Patience Benefits Financial Benefits Fuel paid Other benefits Training/learning paid by employer Paid leave (personal or volunteer days) Transportation service provided by employer Travel insurance
